ITOPF, working with REMPEC and Cedre, presented a training course on hazardous and noxious substance (HNS) spill management in Cairo, Egypt from 26th-30th November 2017. The objectives of the 5-day course were to provide an overview of preparedness and response to a ship-source HNS incident; to facilitate the development of a national contingency plan for response to HNS in the marine environment; and to share experiences and discuss issues that have arisen from recent cases. Franck Laruelle attended on behalf of ITOPF and made a series of presentations to the 40-strong audience which included representatives from the navy, port authorities, Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), oil companies and spill responders.
